Eagle 20HF reachs 36.8 knots

From catsailingnews.com By Martin Vanzulli

Eagle 20 HF Foils

When I told you a new Formula Foiling Class was coming it was no joke or wishful thinking.
Although getting airborne and even final speed does not grant you the meanings to win Course of Long Distance races (Hydroptere, White Dragons, Stunt9 etc) as we’ve been preaching for long time with the new era of beachcat foilers , this is really an impressive nr from the new Eagle 20HF

Above T wing setup being used at the speed session.
The Flying Phantom was the first efficient foiling racing beachcat then followed by the Nacra F20.

Now If this Eagle HF20 system a la Kite/Windsurf foiling kit can be refined to match FP/ Nacra F20 pointing abilities we will see a new paradigm in foil design.
At least it has demonstrated, based on reports, that without a complicated Hydroptere foiling kit it has achieved maybe a speed record for small cats.

What was again the speed achieved by the Moth some time ago?? And this is quite near the GC32s one too.

The Eagle 20HF has reached 36.8knots as reported by the yard through Michael Ehlers.

“Hi Martin
In Germany finally the sailing season started and the conditions improved.
Here an update regarding the 20 HF:
“36.8 knots / 68.15 km/h!….. “Is this a new record for 18-20foot double trapeze multihulls?”
May, 16th. 2015, Altmühlsee, Germany, wind velocity 25 knots, EAGLE 20 HF, half wind, NO Spi, just the regular jib – 5-sqms…
Congratulations to helmsman Timo Späth and EAGLE´s Mastermind Heiner Wolfshoefer…

A-Class – Learning to Foil the Exploder A-Cat

from catsailingnews

The level of satisfaction or achievement on flying an A-class on current foil conf has no par.

Good video to see how dynamic is to sail , and handle foiling while learning, have already better rides than today, but this one is good to see the work involved.
Best sequence at 1:50.

FP ? F20FCS? Those stable flyers out of the box are for ‘rookies’! Don´t waste time and try to learn foiling one of these in current state of development, Historic times and I feel lucky to be a part of it.

Cheers,
Martin

Flying Phantom vs Nacra F20FCS: Upwind Test at Buenos Aires

from catsailingnews

It was an informal test after 1 day of launching the FP, no swap of crews for instance. We just tested like 5-6 times during the day upwind and downwind matchups.Video above is unedited 2:18 of upwind which represents the day perfectly.

EDIT: As my good friends crewing the Nacra thought the report was assigning responsibility to them (all the contrary, they had the best handling and best speed of the day as reported) I will simply put that in an informal first test upwind, 12-.14 knots, gusty conditions and some chop, the FP with Gurvan Bontemps as crew won first round.

AC35: AC62 Flying Cat

From catsailingnews.com

ac62

Fast, foiling, wing-sailed catamarans will race in the next America’s Cup as the new class rule for the AC62 yacht has been released.

The AC62 is 10 feet shorter than its predecessor, but is expected to be just as fast and challenging to race for the crews, and will produce the same heart-pounding action for spectators.

Adam May was one of the key team members along the entire shore & part of the design crew on transforming the failed floating concept of Artemis first version to a foiling AC72. The work done on such short time was truly impressive, achieving first an ‘out of the box’ fast & stable flight on AR AC45.

From catsailingnews.com

Flying Phantom. Cammas, Gabart

Alex Udin sent a press release to announce they sold 20 boats at Paris, and I fired back a Q&A to know how the Production www will continue next year. This Class will not replace any existing one, it will find as shown by the confirmed orders at Paris Nautique, a niche above the F18 / A-Class / F16 / Nacra 17. The great news are everybody has a Playground of their choice to have fun, expanding possibilities for all. The proof? Read the full article
