We’ve had new rudder elevators made so as to increase the surface area of the foils. The latter elevators are twice the size they were last year, which is essentially to balance out the platform following the added foil volumes.”

During the early 1970s, 20,000 miles was sailed by David Keiper in his hydrofoil trimaran, Williwaw, throughout the South Pacific. David’s book, Hydrofoil Voyager, will be at Amazon.com in the summer of 2012. The video was made from rare vintage clips taken before the famous open ocean cruises.
Here the capsize and the recovery of the great Gunboat G4 Timbalero III that finds the limit while racing on the final day of Les Voiles de St. Barth.

Earlier this year, the first stop of The Kite Foil Gold Cup was held in La Venta, Baja Mexico. The event was loaded with international talent and a large variety of board and foiling combinations from around the globe. Short, skinny, rounded edges, blunt noses, pointed tails, you name it, but nothing, stood out like Adam Koch’s entry, the conceptual Raptor which was completed just days before contest time.
Adam is back on Maui now where internet speeds are faster than the escargot pace of Baja and sends us this report in the board!

The “C-foil” and the “L-foil” are well known, but naval architects, engineers and enthusiasts have designed many other kinds of foil – or letters in a foiler lexicon that now includes C, E, J, L, O, S, T, U, V and Y.
